Legal Grandparent DNA Test

The Legal Grandparent DNA Test is used to determine whether a biological relationship exists between a child and one or both alleged grandparents when direct paternity or maternity testing is not possible. This test is commonly requested for legal matters such as immigration, inheritance, Social Security or benefits eligibility, custody cases, and other situations requiring official proof of a family relationship.

All testing is performed by an AABB-accredited U.S. laboratory using validated procedures and strict chain-of-custody protocols. Participant identities are verified at the time of collection, and all samples are securely documented and handled to ensure the results are admissible for court and official use in all 50 states. Final reports are notarized and issued as official documentation.

For the most conclusive results, it is strongly recommended to include the child’s mother when available. Because each child inherits half of their DNA from their mother, her participation helps isolate the paternal genetic contribution and improves the statistical strength of the analysis. Testing can still be performed without the mother if necessary.

Sample collection must be completed by a trained professional. Collection can be arranged through our nationwide network of approved collection sites, or you may choose to have samples collected by your own physician or medical clinic. If participants are located in different cities or states, separate collection appointments can be scheduled so each individual can be tested at a convenient location.

Once all samples are received by the laboratory, results are typically available within 1–2 business days. If email delivery is selected, results are sent securely when testing is complete, and a notarized printed report is mailed shortly afterward.
